Recently, Randy and Alison Bested moved west to live here in Vancouver. Soon, they were delighted to find a great apartment in Downtown Vancouver with wonderful views and they set about making it their home. Randy found his way to my studio here on Granville Island first and after a couple of visits we talked about a painting that he and Alison would like to have in their new home. There was a painting in my studio that was of interest to him but it was simply too big. So, we started to talk about a commissioned piece that would be a perfect fit.

Having visited the studio on several occasions, Mary Lou and Paul DuBord had a good idea of a painting that they would like me to paint for them. Their request was for strong colour and they liked the subject, style and strength of colour in my work. They requested a specific size as they had already chosen a particular space in their home.
They were not at first familiar with the medium of encaustic but had heard my explanation in a previous visit and soon saw the inherent qualities of luminosity and the strength of texture possible in encaustic.

After visiting my studio a few times, Jim and Shelly Reid joined me one morning in my studio to talk about a special painting for their home. Their walls had recently been painted a warm neutral shade so this presented a great opportunity to explore lots of colour suggestions. Size too was a consideration as they had a specific place in their home in mind. As we talked, they mentioned several paintings that they had seen on my web-site. Although this work was sold, the paintings offered suggestions for a direction and colours.

This encaustic painting was commissioned by a client for a new home in Victoria. Sharon Bryan and Rob Sharman have been enjoying finding many paintings and artwork for their new home on the waterfront. They are both very busy people but were such fun to work with. Each having a "good eye", they had very good ideas. We based the painting that I eventually painted for them on several other paintings I had done of Island Gardens. They had a specific size in mind and I had a 40" x 48" panel built to be an exact fit.

This encaustic painting was commissioned by Garth and Joanne Albright of West Vancouver. They were quite certain about the size to fit in with their art collection. I had a 22" x 42" panel built to exactly fit the space they had in mind. The image was inspired by several other paintings I had done of wild flowers along the coast.

"Whistler Honey" was commissioned by C Feeney for the client's law offices and hangs in their boardroom. The inspiration for the painting is the road to Whistler and the beauty of Howe Sound. Stands of fireweed rise above poppies and daisies in an unattended garden and are being carried away in the wind. The painting is on two panels of 48" x 36"" for a diptych of 48" H x 72" W.
